Tara Wassel | D.C: Leading Change in Pediatric Chiropractic Care at Ocean Wellness(2023)
Dr. Tara Wassel recently moved to California from her home state of Virginia. She is excited to join the Ocean Wellness team where her areas of expertise will greatly compliment the current collaboration of providers and services.

Dr. Wassel decided to begin her journey into the field of chiropractic care during high school when she experienced the miracle of chiropractic firsthand. After suffering a serious spinal injury, she was successfully treated by a local chiropractor and was amazed by the results. This inspired her and created within her a strong desire to become part of the profession.
Realizing that her passion was in healthcare, Dr. Wassel began her education at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia where she graduated from the honors program magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She followed this with a move to Seneca Falls, New York to pursue her doctorate in chiropractic. While there, Dr. Wassel received her Doctorate of Chiropractic from New York Chiropractic College graduating with honors and finishing first in her class. As a mother, she was naturally intrigued with chiropractic care for infants and children; however, she did not feel that traditional chiropractic training gave her enough expertise in this population. To enhance her education and understanding of pediatric chiropractic, Dr. Wassel completed the program for advanced pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. Through this program, Dr. Wassel became well versed in the assessment and treatment of infants, children and pregnant women and obtained a certification in the Webster technique. During this time she also interned at the Veterans Administration Outpatient Center in Rochester, NY. There she provided chiropractic care for veterans with multiple health conditions, gaining valuable experience in the treatment of complex cases.

Since graduating in 2012 Dr. Wassel has been in private family practice. She is an expert in providing comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of conditions. Through her additional training, she has also developed the skill set and expertise to work with children who have Neurodevelopmental Disorders such as ADD/ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, dyslexia and learning disorders as well as a variety of associated chronic diseases. Throughout treatment, Dr. Wassel thoroughly addresses not only the symptoms, but the root causes behind them. Her individualized treatment plans combine gentle chiropractic adjustments and manual therapies with nutrition and supplementation, and specific neurosensory integrative exercise programs. Through treatment of the neurosensory system, Dr. Wassel promotes the proper development of neuropathways essential for learning and function. Reprograming areas with weak or aberrant connections using special “brain exercises” also helps to develop, or properly regulate, the sensory processing system. This approach provides a drug free option for promoting proper learning, good behavior, emotional stability and a healthy immune system all without the risk of unwanted side effects of medication.
Dr. Wassel’s desire to constantly expand her knowledge base has led her to continue to research and obtain additional training and education. She feels that this is vital to ensure the highest quality of healthcare to her patients. Additionally, Dr. Wassel has completed continuing education courses in a variety of topics including Tongue tie and tethered oral tissues, methylation, mitochondria and metabolism, energy healing, nutrition and functional medicine. She has also treated many professional athletes and worked for George Mason University as an Affiliated Clinical Instructor in the athletic training program.

Dr. Wassel is excited to join the Ocean Wellness family and is eager to make an impact on the children and families in the North County community.
